With nearly 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Vicki Sorenson knows her job like the back of her hand.
“One of my neighbors worked in insurance, and at her office they had a position for a file clerk open up,” Vicki said. “She told me about the job, and I interviewed and got hired back in 1984. So, I’ve been in the industry for quite some time and have seen it all.”
Throughout the majority of her career, Vicki worked with the same producer, Jace Pearson. They worked at a variety of agencies together with Vicki taking on an account manager role. Eventually, they found their way to Beehive Insurance together, where Vicki has been for the past 12 years.
“I work with various clients, and my book of business is mostly construction,” Vicki said. “I currently work with Brady Thorn (Senior Vice President/Producer at Beehive Insurance). We work with the clients and the carriers to collect information for their insurance renewal — any type they need. I get the carriers’ quotes and look through the coverage just to make sure that it’s correct. Then, during the year, we work on any changes that they need, maintaining their policies to make sure everything’s updated and corrected.”
Vicki’s favorite part of her job is collaborating with clients and getting to know them on a personal basis.
“We have several clients that I’ve worked since I started in the business, so we’ve become friends rather than just business partners,” Vicki said. “It’s nice having friendships with them. I also love working with the people here in the office at Beehive Insurance. Management is really great to work with. The producers here are wonderful to work with. It’s a good environment.”
Being on good terms with clients and coworkers has helped Vicki maintain a positive attitude with her work, especially during times of difficulty.
“One of the challenges for me early on was trying to raise a family and work full time,” Vicki said. “That was hard. Additionally, when I first started, it was a hard market. As I’ve gone through the years, it’s softened, but we’re getting more into a hard market again. So, it’s harder to find coverages and carriers that will quote a decent price which makes renewals more difficult.
“When I first started, you typed up a certificate, stuck it in the mail, and they got it two or three days later. Now, you have to get it right then and send it off. Technology is a lot more advanced now, so everything is much faster paced. Combined, all of these challenges make it more difficult to get things done in a timely manner.”
With hopes to complete the remainder of her career at Beehive Insurance, Vicki will stay plenty busy.
“I’ll be sticking it out here for the next five to six years, helping Brady grow his book to where he wants it to be,” Vicki said. “He’s got a nice big book, so it keeps me occupied. It feels good to stay busy doing what I love to do.”
