In 1961, Wilford W. Clyde, founder of WW Clyde, alongside his assistant J. Richard Walton, established Beehive Insurance Agency in Salt Lake City with Wilford providing the start-up capital.
Initially aimed at serving the insurance needs of the Clyde Companies, Beehive Insurance quickly expanded its scope. Richard, serving as the first president, earned the trust of local construction and trucking leaders, sowing seeds for the agency’s future growth by tirelessly brokering deals between customers and insurance companies.
Fast forward to 1979, Richard recruited Doug Snow, mentoring him in his insurance career at Beehive. This mentorship proved pivotal as in 1991, upon Richard’s retirement, Doug took over as President and CEO of Beehive Insurance.
Doug’s leadership marked a significant growth phase for the agency, especially during the late ‘90s and early 2000s, as he brought on board skilled career producers to enhance the agency’s portfolio and client base.
“It’s been quite the ride, but the best part is, we’ve managed to keep that close-knit, family feel,” Doug said. “When I started, there were four employees, and we now number close to 60. We’re a team that laughs together, works hard together and genuinely cares about each other and our clients. We are growing together as a community.”
In recent years, Doug has served as President of the Salt Lake Association of Independent Insurance Agents, and in 2011, he was awarded the Utah Agent of the Year award by the Utah Association of Independent Insurance Agents.
The leadership transition from Richard to Doug has shown a narrative of mentorship, trust, and strategic growth through decades in the insurance business.
The future at Beehive Insurance continues to be bright with Doug reaching his 45th anniversary with the company in 2024. Doug’s son Adam Snow, alongside Tyson Perkes, currently serve as vice presidents of the organization. Their unique combined experiences will ensure that Beehive Insurance remains a company that is “More Than Just a Policy” well into its horizon.
