Committed to Empowering Women

National Business Women’s Week is celebrated during the third week of each October and is observed to honor the contributions and accomplishments of working women and their supportive employers.

Beehive Insurance truly supports women and directly demonstrates that with an overall female workforce in excess of 60%. Beehive Insurance and its parent company, Clyde Companies, are committed to empowering women in business and strive to showcase this throughout the organization.

Research has shown that most business leadership teams in Utah don’t fully realize the value of having women in key positions and setting women up for success. However, organizations thrive when both men and women have leadership roles—innovation is enhanced and profits generally increase. While still a work in progress, Clyde Companies understands this disparity and is committed to doing something about it, starting with the following initiatives.

Leadership has pledged to hire more women into leadership roles and has already begun to demonstrate this by the recent hiring of Ally Isom in a newly created position as Vice President and Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer.

Clyde Companies has also taken part in the ElevateHER Challenge issued by the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI). The challenge includes a commitment to increase the percentage of women in senior leadership positions as well as the retention rate of women at all levels of the organization, including the Board of Directors. It also challenges Clyde Companies to monitor pay by gender and close any gaps, enhance leadership development programs for women, and urge women to run for public office and provide support in these endeavors.

In addition to the ElevateHER Challenge, women at Clyde Companies have also taken part in the WLI’s Career Development Series. The program is aimed to help women improve transferable skills, build resiliency in the workplace, build high-trust relationships, maximize potential, and strategize to rise to senior levels, among many other things.

Most recently, an Employee Resource Group was formed in April 2022 to support women’s career development at Clyde Companies. Women of Clyde Companies come together once a month to learn and share important resources. The group occasionally brings in outside speakers to discuss topics such as leadership, development, and empowering women in the workplace. Recently Pat Jones from the Women’s Leadership Institute and Susan Madsen from the Utah Women and Leadership Project were guest speakers.

Each year, Clyde Companies highlights women during Women in Construction Week (the first full week of March) through a social media campaign as well as a video campaign featuring women in various roles within the construction industry in an effort to celebrate women in the field and attract more to the company. Throughout the year, both women and men are highlighted in feature stories on each of the company websites that discuss their life stories and how they got started in the business.

In recognition of its efforts, Clyde Companies was recently honored as one of Utah’s 100 Companies Championing Women, a prestigious honor presented from the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (Go Utah), in partnership with the Utah Women & Leadership Project at Utah State University, as an initiative of Go Utah’s Inspire In Utah campaign.

Clyde Companies will continually strive to improve its initiatives and exposure for women, helping them advance to higher positions and enhance their overall skillsets. At Clyde Companies, believe in our core value of “We Value People,” and we work to ensure women are empowered within our organization.
